Meet Karina
Welcome
I am Karina Noordam, founder of The House of Resilience. I am always curious about what lives in the inner world of individuals and organizations.
I guide them in discovering their own resilience, so that they can act with certainty in times of uncertainty.
I believe that in every crisis there’s an opportunity for growth, but it’s up to you to seize it.

When people ask me why the core of my work revolves around resilience, I have a story to share:
My own journey of resilience began with a series of life-altering incidents between the ages of 16 and 26, which profoundly changed the course of my life. From a skiing accident that left me with chronic nerve pain and eventually forced me to drop out of high school, to surviving two impactful car crashes that again, knocked me off course.
These life events had a significant impact on my physical and mental well-being, required major adjustments in my life and changed relationships with my family and friends. The structure of my life was repeatedly thrown into disarray by a series of unpredictable incidents. It made me feel powerless and unsafe.
Going through multiple rehabilitation processes over the course of a decade, I learned a lot about trauma and its effect on the body and the mind. Through trial and error, I managed to overcome my personal crises and discovered resilience within myself. It was this transformative period in my life that fueled my curiosity to understand the science of dealing with adversity, incidents, and crisis. By taking on my own challenges over and over again, I eventually managed to recover.
Along the way I found my calling: helping individuals and organizations to raise their resilience, so that they can thrive in turbulent times.
Because of what came my way, I started studying and researching the concept of resilience at an early age and later sought depth delving into psychology and corporate communication. Towards the end of my corporate communication studies, it became clear to me that I wanted to further specialize in the field of crisis management. I particularly took interest in the upcoming number of cybersecurity crises. This resulted in a graduation research project at security provider Fox-IT.
Here I took a deep dive into the discipline of cyber crisis management and wrote my thesis on crisis and reputation management in relation to cybersecurity incidents. After having worked with Fox-IT, I continued working in the field as an independent consultant. Over the years I have gained valuable insights into effective strategies for handling incidents and crises. From The House of Resilience, I help organizations to become more resilient in this area.
I have experienced firsthand, that the exchange of order and disorder is inherent in life. Difficult challenges are sometimes unavoidable, but our response to setbacks is and remains our own. This is where our resilience lies, and we can work on it proactively.
Motivated by my own experience, I also wanted to spend my time working with people who are dealing with personal setbacks. I decided to study to become a professional coach. Although I received good help in my recovery process, at an emotional level I often missed the understanding and recognition that you feel in conversation with someone who can empathize from lived experience.
Nowadays, thanks to my background, I can use both my professional knowledge and my personal experience to help my clients deal with impactful life events. At The House of Resilience, I guide them in transforming obstacles by converting them into insightful lessons that promote personal growth and resilience.
